Introduction - assam is a state of India where flood is the major problem of people. Flood is a natural disaster. It occurs in assam almost every year. In recent time flood is the worst enemy of man.
Why flood occurs- flood occurs during the monsoon season. Assam is a land of rivers. During the rainy season the brahmaputra and the barak as well as their tributaries filled with water. Sometime water rises above the normal level and become water and water everywhere.
Its effect- flood causes extensive damage. It sweeps away everything from the entire locality. Thousands of people and animals die during the flood. It destroys orchards houses and cornfields. It damages roads, bridges and railway lines. It bring untold misery to people.
Relief measure- flood affected people are given relief both by the government and voluntary organization. They supply food, clothes, medicine and other necessary things to the affected people.
Conclusion- assam requires a permanent solution to this chorionic problem. The central government should declare it is a national problem. The state government should construct more and more embankment on both side of the river.
